I am not a big fan of the Washington Redskins. Simple and Short. I hope I've not offended you because you expect that I should be one seeing that I live in the Redskins' home area.
When the deadskins, oops Redskins hired Joe Gibbs, many people who had hitherto lost all hope in the Redskins had a reason to hope once again. Any serious fan of American Football knows that Joe Gibbs is a name to be reckoned with. His achievements speak for themselves.
Nevertheless let's review Joe Gibbs record: In 2004, the Redskins managed to secure an abysmal 6 victories in 16 regular season games. In 2005, they were able to get past the first round of the playoffs but fell to the Seattle Seahawks. This was their best season in a very long time! In 2006, the Redskins managed only 5 pathetic wins in 16 regular seasons. Last year, they would have crashed out after 8 wins and 7 losses if not for the fortunate last season encounter with the Cowboys in Redskin stadium. Having qualified for the playoffs, the Cowboys decided to rest their top guns, and so the Redskins were able to snatch a victory. Talk about qualifying for the playoffs by the skin of one's teeth! They'll meet the Seattle Seahawks again today in the first playoff round.
I may be naïve, but Joe Gibb's performance (since 2004 when he was rehired to be the coach of this team) leaves a lot to be desired. I don't know who or what forced him out of retirement; I don't know who told him that he is a miracle worker, but clearly whatever high hope I had when he came back has clearly fizzled away. I think he may just be too old for this job.
At any rate, by 4:30pm today the Redskins are going to meet the Seahawks on their home pitch where they've only been beaten once in 8 regular season games. You don't need a crystal ball to see that the Redskins have reached their end of the road. I'll be most surprised if the Redskins, with all the emotional rollercoaster they've been through so far by the death of Sean Taylor, are able to pull an upset in Seattle! I am not keeping my fingers crossed though.
Call me whatever you want—jerk, moron, opportunist—but it will take more victories to convince me to become a fan. Oh yes… I deserve to be happy with my choice of a team to cheer for. I am sick and tired of hoping upon hope for a team that hardly delivers. I mean, can I not be a Patriots fan if I choose to? They had a perfect season last year; in all likelihood they may win the Superbowl again for 4 times in 5 years. Is it a mean feat? Heck NO!
I deserve the rapture and pride of Patriots or Colts fans QED. If the Redskins are only good at giving me heart palpitations every Sunday for screwing up games they should clearly have won (after setting up great leads or playing in front of a mammoth crowd of home supporters), then they can go to HELL. I don't need the grief. Lets see if my prediction doesn't come to pass, shall we?
Seems like you are a deadbeat fan. Ever hear of team spirit??? Go jump on
someone bandwagon and cheer for players you never even heard of then. The
true fans like me take the bad with the good and when the skins win another
one don't come back to the skins because we are winning now that you left
!!! LOL you were the curse CHUMP
What do you know? Joe Gibbs resigned yesterday... for family reasons. It
was as if I foresaw this. Goodbye Joe Gibbs, you deserve to rest. You put
in your best for a "cursed" enterprise, but it looks like your past success
is not going to be a magic formula for the DEADSKINS! You can leave with
your head held high. The Redskins may need more than a coach with a
previous record and huge piles of cash thrown its way by a devoted owner
and a loyal fan base---it just may need total overhauling!
