Finally, Barry Bonds has broken baseball biggest and longest record. He hit his 756th homer yesterday and thereby exceeded the 755 home-runs set by Hank Aaron. The news was all over the mass media. Nevertheless, why do reporters and bloggers alike sneer and mock an obviously accomplished star athlete when reporting this news? The sarcasm and the concealed contempt is very transparent on their faces as you watch the television. On print, you can see it dribbling from the mouths of commentators. Isn't it time to give this man the honor and respect he deserves seeing that he has arisen above all the feckless and unsubstantial steroid abuse charges?
Here, you have a man that has never failed a steroid test; a man who has never been convicted of taking any performance-enhancing drugs despite the widespread suspicions; who has made himself available for relevant query etc. If there was any genuine proof that Barry Bonds used steroids, he would have been found guilty and action would have undoubtedly been taken. In the absence of damning evidence, I think its time for people to grow up and quit harassing a man who has proven himself capable in so many ways. It is time to bury the sneering and the suggestive speech until we see some real evidence tying Bonds to steroids. Let's give honor to whom honor is due!
